The Norwegian Computing Center (NR) is an independent research institute based in Oslo, specializing in applied research and development in computer science, statistics, and artificial intelligence.
The Norway Mobility Program offers data science talents the opportunity to undertake a research stay of up to three months at the Norwegian Computing Center. NR provides a research-intensive environment with a strong focus on practical application and interdisciplinary collaboration.

About NORA
NORA - Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Research Consortium
The Norwegian Computing Center is a partner of NORA, the Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Research Consortium. This initiative aims to strengthen Norwegian research, education, and innovation in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics, as well as other relevant areas that support the development of AI applications.
Together with HIDA, NORA co-organizes the Norway Mobility Program, which offers doctoral researchers and postdocs from the Helmholtz Association and NORA partner institutions the opportunity to participate in a research stay in Norway.
Norwegian Computing Center (NR) is an independent, non-profit foundation that performs contract research for public and private sectors in Norway and internationally. NR is one of Europe’s largest research environments in applied statistics, providing services in finance and insurance, earth observation, climate and environment, healthcare, administration and petroleum. Within ICT, our research includes information security, universal design and smart information systems.
Research priorities:
The Norwegian Computing Center is one of Europe’s largest research institutions in the field of applied statistics.
The institute’s research activities focus on three core thematic areas:
- Statistical modelling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI)
- Information and communication technology (ICT)
- Image analysis and Earth observation
The Norwegian Computing Center comprises a team of about 100 researchers and staff.
NR's Expertise in Data Science & AI
NR has strong methodological expertise in developing and applying data-driven models and algorithms. Interdisciplinary teams work on innovative solutions with a clear focus on responsibility, societal impact, and ethical technology development.
Key competencies include:
- Applied statistics and probabilistic modeling
- Machine learning for health, environmental, and industrial applications
- Explainable AI (XAI) and algorithmic fairness
- Processing of sensor, image, and text data
- Natural language processing for Scandinavian languages
- Security, data privacy, and trustworthy AI
How to Apply
- Step 1: Contact a research group at one of the NORA member institutions to discuss the possibility of a three-month research stay.
- Step 2: Submit your application through HIDA
- Step 3: Applications are reviewed by a selection committee, and you will be notified shortly thereafter.
