Our Partner in South Korea:

Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information

The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) is Korea’s national institute dedicated to advancing science and technology through information, computation, and data-driven innovation.

The South Korea Mobility Program offers data science talents the opportunity to undertake a research stay of up to three months at KISTI in Daejeon. Participants gain access to Korea’s leading supercomputing facilities, cutting-edge data platforms, and an interdisciplinary environment that connects computational science with real-world applications.

About NST

National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST)

The National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST) currently brings together 23 leading research institutes active in a wide range of fields – from materials science, biotechnology, and energy to space exploration, robotics, and information and communication technologies. It coordinates their strategic direction, fosters synergies among the institutes, and supports the government in shaping research and innovation strategies.

In doing so, NST plays a key role in advancing scientific excellence in areas of societal relevance and in transferring technological innovations to industry and society. In addition, it strengthens the international networks of Korean research and enables joint projects with leading research organizations worldwide.

The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) is a national research institute under the Ministry of Science and ICT, established to advance science and technology through the power of information. Its mission is to collect, analyze, and provide access to scientific data and knowledge, while developing innovative computational and data-driven solutions that support researchers, policymakers, and industry.

KISTI operates Korea’s largest supercomputing infrastructure and serves as the backbone of the country’s science and technology information network. It develops advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence applications, and simulation technologies to accelerate discovery in fields such as materials science, energy, life sciences, and engineering. In doing so, KISTI bridges the gap between massive scientific data resources and practical, problem-solving research.

Beyond technology development, KISTI plays a strategic role in national R&D planning by providing evidence-based policy support and foresight analysis. By combining computational science with large-scale information systems, it helps guide Korea’s innovation strategies and supports industry in adopting digital transformation tools. Today, KISTI is internationally recognized as a hub for research data, high-performance computing, and open science.

Through collaborations with universities, global research institutes, and industry partners, it ensures that scientific information and advanced computational tools are accessible and impactful across disciplines.

Research priorities:

KISTI’s mission combines infrastructure, research, and service to maximize the value of scientific information.

Its key priorities include:

  • Supercomputing and high-performance computing (HPC) – operating Korea’s top-tier supercomputers to enable large-scale simulations and accelerate computational research.
  • Data science and artificial intelligence – developing platforms and algorithms for big data analysis, machine learning, and AI-driven discovery across scientific domains.
  • Science and technology information services – curating and analyzing global R&D information to support researchers, industry, and government policy.
  • Technology foresight and R&D policy support – providing evidence-based analysis and strategic insight to guide Korea’s innovation policies and investments.
