About NST
National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST)
The National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST) currently brings together 23 leading research institutes active in a wide range of fields – from materials science, biotechnology, and energy to space exploration, robotics, and information and communication technologies. It coordinates their strategic direction, fosters synergies among the institutes, and supports the government in shaping research and innovation strategies. In doing so, NST plays a key role in advancing scientific excellence in areas of societal relevance and in transferring technological innovations to industry and society. In addition, it strengthens the international networks of Korean research and enables joint projects with leading research organizations worldwide.
KITECH collaborates closely with Korean companies, particularly SMEs, by providing joint research, technology transfer, and practice-oriented training. The institute plays a key role in developing advanced manufacturing technologies, introducing automation and robotics, and driving sustainable energy solutions.
Today, KITECH is a central partner in Korea’s industrial policy, contributing to the modernization of the country’s production systems. It bridges fundamental research with industrial application and fosters innovations that directly translate into economic growth and sustainability.
Research priorities:
KITECH’s work focuses on industrial innovation with a strong application orientation. Its key priorities include:
-
Advanced manufacturing technologies – development of new production methods, automation systems, and robotics solutions.
-
Digital technologies and data science – use of AI, big data, and simulation to optimize industrial processes.
-
Materials science – development and application of advanced materials for high-tech industries.
-
Energy and environmental technologies – sustainable solutions for clean energy, resource efficiency, and the circular economy.
-
Support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – close collaboration with companies to transform new technologies into market-ready products.
