New perspectives on data science

"Art meets science": The joint research fellowship of the Academy for Theater and Digitality and the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy enters its second round

The Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA) and the Academy for Theater and Digitality Dortmund (ATD) are once again calling for applications for two research fellowships for artists, technicians and scientists who want to work at the interface between digital art and cutting-edge digital research. Applications are still open until May 15.

With this joint project, HIDA and the Academy for Theater and Digitality want to promote the development of formats that artistically open up the topic of data science to the public. Cutting-edge research that works with artificial intelligence will thus be made accessible to the performing arts of tomorrow. Completely new opportunities open up for the fellows: They can experiment with innovative methods, explore digital ecosystems, and use their current findings to promote the transfer between art, information, and data science.

Five Months of Funding

The five-month residency fellowship is spent at the Dortmund Academy for Theater and Digitality and at one of the 18 research centers of the Helmholtz Association. The fellowships are designed to enable scholars and artists working in the field of theater to begin research projects, realize conceptual designs, and continue or complete work that has already begun. To this end, HIDA and the Academy award two five-month fellowships (including coverage of costs for travel, housing, etc.) and provide a workspace and access to networks as well as hardware and software of the participating institutions.

The call is open to artists, technicians, and scientists interested in exploring artistic, technical, and scientific issues in the context of digital narratives in theatrical contexts as well as their practical implementation.

The funding period is possible from September 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. Applications can be sent by May 15, 2022 to fellowship-application@theater.digital
