At the first Virtual Helmholtz Data Science Career Day, future data scientists could inform themselves about the next steps on the career ladder and get to know possible fields of activity. A career in data sciences promises interesting career paths - especially since data scientists can contribute with their expertise to solving major challenges for society, science and the economy. The first Virtual Helmholtz Data Science Career Day on 23.09.2020 offered hundreds of interested people from all over the world the opportunity to learn more about a career in data science. Renowned data scientists spoke in keynotes and panels about possible career paths in their respective research fields. The variety of exciting fields of activity for future data scientists was discussed as well as hints and suggestions on what one can do to pursue a data-rich career.

MY CAREER IN DATA SCIENCE: XIAOXIANG ZHU
Xiaoxiang Zhu (Head of Department Earth Observation Data Science, Remote Sensing Technology Institute, German Aerospace Center) is an outstanding and internationally recognized scientist in the field of artificial intelligence and Data Science in Earth observation, with a particular application focus on societal grand challenges.

Uwe Ohler has been Professor at the Max Delbrueck Center in Berlin since 2012, with a primary appointment in the Department of Biology and a secondary appointment in the Department of Computer Science at Humboldt University Berlin. Besides other, he is currently co-director of the Helmholtz Einstein International Berlin Research School in Data Science (HEIBRiDS).
