Join us in Berlin from 01 - 03 December 2026 for the sixth edition of TEACH — Talking about Education Across Communities at Helmholtz!
TEACH brings together passionate educators, including teaching staff, researchers, coordinators, and developers, to share teaching methods, best practices, and experiences. Our goal is to strengthen the teaching community within the Helmholtz Association and its partner institutions, recognizing that high-quality education is crucial for high-quality research.
Call for Abstracts
The call for abstracts will be open to 18 September 2026.
TEACH 6 thrives on participation, exchange, and community contributions. We warmly invite members of the Helmholtz community and partner institutions to actively shape the conference program.
We are looking for contributions that share experiences, practical approaches, research perspectives, tools, methods, and lessons learned related to teaching and training in scientific contexts. Contributions may align with the conference theme of evidence-based learning and learning science, but submissions on broader topics connected to teaching, facilitation, and training are equally welcome.
We invite submissions in the following formats:
- Talks (20 mins)
- Interactive / hands-on Workshops (90–120 minutes)
- Posters (presented during poster session)

Next to the contributions from our Helmholtz education community, we invited external experts to round off our program!
Keynote by Stephan Krusche
Professor for Applied Education Technologies - he conducts research at the intersection of educational technologies, software engineering, human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence. Stephan developed the open-source learning and research platform Artemis, which is used to improve teaching and learning.
Workshop 1: Problem-based Learning - Supporting great minds to become better by Christoph Sprung
Activating learning methods provide great opportunities for both lecturers and students to grow. For students, it is a suitable way to become familiar with self-directed learning methods and the development of softskills.
Lecturers have the opportunity to create a lecturing concept, in which they have the chance to support, guide, and challenge their students more individually, thus tailoring the learning pathway for best possible needs of their students. The core of problem-based learning are the cases, which have to be created in a way that anticipates students’ thinking and are at the same time engaging and support lasting memory of the learning content.
In this workshop, you will as well experience this learning method from a student’s perspective, which supports your capability to create such a learning concept. A second focus will be given on guiding students through their (!) learning journey and enable them to grow.
Workshop 2: Intercultural Aspects in Teaching and Learning by Katharina Bonyhádi
In an increasingly international and diverse higher education environment, teaching and learning take place across disciplinary, institutional, national, and cultural communities. This workshop explores how inter- and transcultural perspectives can support learning, participation and communication in higher education, training, and other educational contexts across Helmholtz.
Together we will experience some intercultural learning activities and discuss and reflect upon those and other experiences with intercultural educational situations. We will also explore some theoretical foundations of inter- and transculturality and address findings on the impact of intercultural training programmes.
The workshop is designed as an interactive space for exchanging experiences and views across Helmholtz communities. Through active participation, individual reflection and collaborative discussion participants will connect theoretical perspectives with their own educational practice.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have reflected on their intercultural experiences, developed a basic understanding of selected theoretical perspectives on interculturality, discussed strategies for teaching and learning in diverse and international learning environments, and formulated initial ideas for their own educational contexts.
