Regional Helmholtz Information & Data Science Schools (Schools) promote young scientists in all research areas. At these schools, highly talented graduates can do research at the interface between information technologies and other scientific areas, acquiring and deepening unique insights.

The six Helmholtz Information & Data Science Schools offer doctoral researchers numerous opportunities for further scientific training.  They are groundbreaking in the development of new collaborative approaches to evaluating complex, heterogeneous data in the natural sciences with the help of intelligent algorithms - thus enabling modern cutting-edge research.

Helmholtz School for Marine Data Science

The Helmholtz School for Marine Data Science (MarDATA) is a joint activity by the marine institutes GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and the Alfred-Wegener-Institute (AWI) Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, Bremerhaven, together with their university partners Kiel University, Universität Bremen and Jacobs University in Bremen. MarDATA is funded by the Helmholtz Association.

Established in 2018, the Helmholtz Einstein International Berlin Research School in Data – or HEIBRiDS for short – is an interdisciplinary program that trains young scientists in Data Science and in other scientific disciplines at the same time! It is our goal to educate a generation of researchers, who are exceptional data scientists and who understand the demands and the challenges of disciplines in which data science is a necessity.
