The Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA) is launching a brand-new exchange program … we invite postdocs from Germany and around the world to become part of the HIDA Visiting Program.
HIDA offers national and international postdocs from academia as well as scientists at research-driven companies the opportunity for paid short-term research stays at one of the Helmholtz Centers.
The program's aim is to generate collaborations, facilitate knowledge and methods exchanges, and explore new or emerging research topics in the field of information & data sciences in and between academia and industry. The program serves as a door opener for participating scientists to gain an insight into the fascinating research world of the Helmholtz Association.
How it works
What? We offer financial support for a self-organized research stay in a department/working group in one of the 18 Helmholtz Centers. Your research focus needs to be in the (applied) information & data sciences.
Who? Our HIDA Visiting Program addresses postdocs from (inter)national research organizations and research scientists in industry (master degree, at least 3 years research experience or PhD). If you are a postdoc at one of the Helmholtz Centers and are interested in a research stay at another Helmholtz Center, please check our HIDA Trainee Network.
Duration? HIDA offers funding for a 3-month-research stay.
Funding? You take a leave of absence from your current organization and receive a research grant from the hosting Helmholtz Center (2.860 EUR per month plus subsidies, please find more details in the HIDA Guidelines for Research Grants). HIDA will reimburse the Helmholtz Center after the exchange.
Step 1: Contact a research group at one of the 18 Helmholtz Centers to discuss the opportunity for a 3-month research stay.
Step 2: You and the hosting Helmholtz Center (e.g. head of division or group) can apply for a HIDA research grant to financially support your stay.
Step3: Organize your stay and get inspired by the fascinating research world of Helmholtz ;) …
Application for the HIDA Visiting Program is open until October 1, 2021 for an exchange in 2022. Before applying, please carefully read our application guidelines. The review process might take approximately 3 months – you will be notified by the end of this year.
All applications are reviewed by the HIDA Office for completeness and whether the eligibility criteria are fulfilled. Participants are then selected by a selection committee on the basis of the application submitted. The selection committee consists of the HIDA Steering Committee, which is composed of representatives of the Helmholtz research fields and the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Schools.
The funding is awarded in particular on the basis of the applicant’s motivation, the quality and originality of the project, and its basic feasibility within the timeframe of the planned research stay. Furthermore, a connection to data or information science and the added value for the research portfolio of the Helmholtz Association must be clearly evident. The funding approval is made in agreement with the centers.
Final Report and Certificate
After the research stay, applicants are asked to provide HIDA with a report of their activities at the hosting Helmholtz Center. The final report should be submitted to the HIDA Office within 3 months of completing the research stay. Upon receipt of the final report, the HIDA Office will send a certificate of participation in the HIDA Visiting Program.
